{"id":1495,"date":"2017-10-22T20:05:40","date_gmt":"2017-10-22T20:05:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brucemore.ca\/west\/?page_id=1495"},"modified":"2017-11-01T14:31:37","modified_gmt":"2017-11-01T14:31:37","slug":"gramma-emmas-family-the-longs-bryants-iresons","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/brucemore.ca\/west\/gramma-emmas-family-the-longs-bryants-iresons\/","title":{"rendered":"Longs of West Hanney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(Gramma Emma&#8217;s family)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>Philip &amp; Harriet Long<\/b>\u00a0(Grandpa John\u2019s \u201cin-laws\u201d)\u00a0\u00a0 The Long family seem to have come from Chalford and Stadhampton in Oxfordshire,\u00a0 appearing on the census rolls of Garford or Hanney area in the census of 1881 which lists Philip and Harriet Long, with family Philip (Edgar) at 11 years of age, Charles at 10,\u00a0George\u00a0\u2013 6,\u00a0Emma\u00a0(Grandma West) \u2013 4,\u00a0 Alice -1,\u00a0 plus two servants, but inexplicably, no mention of Mary (Millie).\u00a0 \u00a0 Philip was a Baker and Coal Merchant \u201cwho baked old-fashioned top-and-bottom loaves, usually burnt black but crusty and very sweet.\u00a0 They were so popular that his round went out to Lyford and Southmoor\u201d.\u00a0 They seem to have been members of the West Hanney Church, as their prominent gravestones indicate.\u00a0 They appear to have deferred to the West family\u2019s Strict Baptist tradition in allowing the wedding of their daughter to Grandpa to take place outside of their church.\u00a0\u00a0 Grandpa and Grandmas\u2019 wedding certificate says \u201cGrove Particular Baptist Chapel\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Photo Galleries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the most part, these are pictures from my mother (Elsie More&#8217;s) albums.
