John L. West. 1933-2023

IN MEMORIAM

John Louis WEST, was born in Vancouver, BC on April 13th, 1933. He passed away peacefully in his sleep Dec 19, 2023 at the age of 90 in Calgary AB.

John was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce, in 2012. John is survived by his very special friend and companion, Barb Martineau of Airdrie AB, his brother Bill (Joan) of Ladysmith BC, sister Ann of Granthams Landing BC, son Ken (Patty) of Cochrane AB, son Bob of Vancouver BC, grandchildren Gareth of Calgary, Gordon of Calgary and Jordan of Vancouver, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews in BC.

John served as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in several Alberta communities from 1951 to 1979. These included Banff, Okotoks, Calgary, Strathmore, McLennan, Red Deer and Ponoka. After his retirement from a 28 year career in the RCMP, John worked for the Town of Pooka where he retired the second time in 1990 from his role as the Municipal Manager.

John and Joyce enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the USA in their RV as well as the winters of their retirement years in Arizona with many of their friends. John was a volunteer for more than a decade at The Lending Cupboard in Red Deer AB, where he was on the board of Directors and also worked in the shop to maintain and prepare the equipment that is loaned to the public.

Family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. A private family interment will be held at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer AB.
